Battle of Maria Sharapova – Serena Williams will be the focus of the first round of the women’s singles, according to the branch draw on August 22.
Sharapova and Serena have met each other four times in the Grand Slam finals, but have never faced the US Open, in any tournament. The match between the two players who didn’t like each other promises to raise the heat for the last Grand Slam of the year right from the first round.
Serena has won the championship six times at Flushing Meadows, the last of which was in 2014. Sharapova was crowned once, in 2006. Both former world number one have collected a complete set of four different Grand Slams in the process. Career (Career Grand Slam). Sharapova has six major championships, and Serena, with 23 Grand Slams, is determined to win the US Open to balance Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slams.
Both have struggled with injuries over the past year. The Williams sisters, though, still outperformed their rivals in class and style. Serena has just reached the final of Wimbledon and only lost to Halep, while Sharapova was eliminated in the first round of the Grand Slam on the pitch. In terms of confrontation, Serena won 19 matches and Sharapova won only two.
The number one seed and defending champion, Naomi Osaka will meet Anna Blinkova in the first round. 15-year-old Cori Gauff, who was in the fourth round of Wimbledon, confronted another Russian player, Anatasia Potapova, in the opening match. Gauff and Osaka may face each other in the third round.
Of the top eight seeds, number one seed Osaka shares the quarter-final branch with seed number seven Kiki Bertens. Seed number four Simona Halep with the branch number six Petra Kvitova. Elina Svitolina is in the same league as Karolina Pliskova, and Serena Williams can face the second world Ashleigh Barty in the quarterfinals.
The women’s singles champion received $3.85 million, with the player crowned in the men’s singles.
